It was also unrealistic how everybody retired from their daily duties and jobs without much hesitation, neglecting their families and roaming around Europe, chasing an almost impossible goal. Their plan: find Harvey, shadow him, trap him, and penny-for-penny, destroy him. The characters all felt alike and empty at times. With nothing left to lose, four strangers are about to come together, each expert in their own field. The professor was portrayed as highly intelligent, the French art dealer was portrayed often as a womanizer and the lord was extremely charismatic and classy.
I would argue that the attributes that were assigned to some characters were solely based on stereotypes. We got similar perspectives from other characters in the story yet there was not a significant buildup on their personalities. We learnt about his past as a poor messenger boy which led us to sympathise with him, and how he managed to use unethical tactics to earn millions of dollars. In fact, the first chapter was from the point of view of the villain- Harvey. There was considerable focus on the characters' backstories. Character Development: I found this essential characteristic to be somewhat lacking in the story.
